I believe the SSD exchanging is done by the hosting company / datacenter where the server is stored at, and not by any of the devs if i read correctly last time i saw TA post about it , might be wrong, but i don't believe its any of the devs that are on site now, first of it would require a certain amount of security access just to get into a datacenter, you don't just walk in from the street , in Denmark our datacenters have fingerprint scanner machines and what not, its multi million dollar hardware thats stored at places like this.

We are in a similar position to you... We have 60+ in our township and expected to rank up to city round about now, I'm just wondering whether the server will pick up from where we left it or whether we will have to wait for next week (assuming their are any rank 4 slots left on Tatooine) as our cities weekly update time seems unaffected by any rollbacks or downtime.

I fully appreciate its in Alpha right now but I'm cursing my bad luck at the moment if we miss out on a city upgrade!

Out of curiosity, what are the specs on the server? Just wonderin if we're allowed to see, and I didn't find anything poking around the forums.

I found the link to the specs you were looking for:

This should provide the geeks some food to chew on for a bit.
Scroll down to Vlada's Post... Not the link in the post, it's outdated.

Thanks to all the people who work so hard to make this happen. I'm so happy just to be able to hangout in game and do stuff.

Hope not, honestly. More downtime means more updates later. I'm all for progress.

That is true, its no staff here who physically change the SSD. that job takes, what? 5 min? What staff will do is probably reinstall every thing needed to be on the disks and thats what takes so long.

I would also assume based on my job as a Systems admin, that a full backup of the DB would be done first, to make sure the most recent data is available. Followed by replacing the drives, restore the backup, and rebuild the RAID. With testing done after the rebuild is complete to make sure all is good. Mind you I don't know the exact steps being followed, that's just how I'd do it
