    Artisan Grind Guide and Newbie Guide

    NOTE: This guide is not to teach you HOW to be an artisan. Only how to become a master from nothing while still getting max value for what you are doing. And by the time you are done with this. In 3 days of not really doing much WORK you will be master and have a few credits to start you in the next profession you want.

    I have personally done this on 5 servers from scratch and have honed it to be as fast as possible and yeild enough credits to make you productive in your future adventures. Hope it helps

    So you decided the way you want to play is by creating things. well let me tell you that you can make alot of money doing the professional skills but as a Master Artisan there is not that much money in it. But it is the start of everything else. Regardless of why you want to be one lets move on and create a character.

    Pick whatever you want.. I chose Human.. Whatever doesnt matter.

    Start as Artisan.. And then choose any city you want.. Really doesnt matter but Cornet on Corrila is what I chose since it is the center of the universe and that is where most people go and will train you for free. Why pay for training..

    TRAINING:
    There are 2 ways in which you can gain training in the game.

    1) Buy it from the Trainers. This is costly but in some cases you need to do this since no one around has the skill.
    2) Get someone to train you in it. It is free and they get AP (Apprentice Points) for it.

    STARTING OFF:
    So to start off. You are going to need to make something. To make something guess what you need something to make it with. Congratz to you.. Time for surveying.. You started with some cloths, a survival knife, flora survey tool, mineral survey device, generic crafting tool and some other misc. stuff. Now time to break out your good old Mineral Survey Device. This is key for the next couple days of your life. For that is how you are going to get the items for you to make things.

    MINERAL SURVEY DEVICE: (Surveying in general)
    Double click on your Mineral Survey Device.. The first time you bring this up you will be promted for a range. You only have 1 range. choose it... You will then be back at your inventory window. Double click on your Mineral Survey Device again and this will show you 2 windows inside. The window to the left is the overhead map with 9 grids of information. That information is the percent that what you are surveying for is at in general relationship to where you are. you are dead center of the survey (until you move). To the right is a list of all items that can be found on the current planet you are on. NOTE: This will change on a day to day basis and will also change on whatever planet you are on.

    Now that you are comfortable with the information at hand. We need to find a metal. Look under your survey tool under Metals you will be listed a few metals or just one.. Select the first in the metal and click the survey button. This will then bring up number. Mental note the numbers. Then select
    the next Metal in the list and survey that. Do that for all the metals. Find the one with the highest percent. Once you have that we will say 40% then run to the way point it set for you do this again. And keep doing this until you are outside the city or at something like 70% or higher. Dont go to far out the city. Remember you are a newbie and will die. And we dont want that. Now that you have a good spot picked out. Hit the sample button. This will take some time might as well get some coffee or what not. What this is doing will sample the resource (get some for you) and put it in your inventory for use. Now remember you will fail alot since you are just starting out. So dont
    expect alot of Metal. For every sucessfull sample you get you will also get experience in Surveying.

    Keep doing this until you get 500 metal or Surveying I maxed out in experience. If you get Surveying maxed out (which I am sure you will before you get 500 metal) Then run into town and do the following

    /shout Can someone train me in Surveying 1 PLEASE!

    You will get some tells that they can train you. Get the training and head back to your spot. Now keep sampling..

    Once you get 500 metals the time to grind begins.. Double click on your Generic Crafting Device. Select Wind Survey. This item is 8 complexity. And will yeild some good crafting experience for you. It takes 16 metal.. Make one. Once that is made Make another this time though instead of creating one
    turn on practice mode. This will yeild another 10% of experience per creating. The problem with that though is that you will not get the item for it. Why would you want it? Who cares. Keep doing this until you get Engineering I. Once again go back into town and get training the same way. Go back
    And start sampling.

    So by this time you are ethier tired and want to go to bed or you are hard core. Ethier way. If you want to go to bed. Use you sleep time to get more meterial while you are asleep. Create a macro..

    Hit CONTROL-A
    Click on Macro
    Click on New Macro
    In Name type "SampleOvernight" or whatever you want
    Then the macro should read
    /stand;
    /pause 1;
    /sample;
    /pause 3;
    /stand;
    /pause 2;
    /sit;
    /pause 25;
    /ui action toolbarSlot00;

    Now hit control-6 this will change your toolbar to the last useable toolbar. This will be your AFK toolbar.. Now drag the icon (macro) you just made into the F1 slot of your toolbar. Hit that key when you are standing at your sample spot and just go to bed. It will gather your resources for you while you sleep.

    MOVING ON:
    Now that you have resources comming in or atleast now know how to do it. Lets move on to how you should proceed. Go get some fiberplast. This is bread and butter in the game. And alot of stuff will use it.. It is a chemical.. So you need to make a Chemical Survey Device. Use the metals that you got and make one. Now go survey and get some fiberplast. This might be in small blocks but tuff it out get yourself around 24 or so of it. Once you get that. Make yourself 4 more General Crafting Kits. You are going to need them to grind out the Wind Current Survey Tools faster. So now is the time to grind out using the Wind Surveying tool. Keep doing this and train as you need to. This is
    the best item to grind with since it uses all the same items. It is complexity of 8 which will yeild the best bang for the buck. Some people say to make wood staffs. But this is slower and more clicking. I am all about speed and effiency. You should train all the way up Engineering First before doing anything else. The reason for this is that it will allow you to make better things and things that will be worth something earlier in the game progession.

    By the time you make Engineering 4 you should also be maxed out on Surveying.. Allowing for more chances for you getting ore or items per servey. And will allow for larger ranges in surveying. Now you should be looking to make some money to help you along your way. The next phase will be to get harvesters out there. Now you can make simple harvesters for all your needs. The problem is getting cash up front for this. The best thing is to survey and get around 2K worth of Steel, Ore or something. Then go to the bazaar and sell the 2000 ore for 3 credits per unit or for around 6000 credits. This is not alot of cash but will be enough for you to continue on. Now that you have 6000 credits. Survey some more and get the items needed for a Wind Generator... This will be your bread and butter for a bit for cash. Get out that Wind Current Survey tool you made and survey. Try to find the highest concentration of wind you can. You will not be able to sample it but trust me doesnt matter. Now place your Wind Harvester there and dump 5000 credits into it for maintence.
    This should hold it off for 5 days. Now if you are in a good spot you should be getting around 3000 wind power a day. This will sell for 4 credits per unit in the Bazaar. Keep this process up until you get around 10000 credits of credits. Once you have this get a Mineral Harvester and place that out there using the power that you are generating and selling off the addition..

    Now remember you will still be manually surveying for ore and such as well as getting it from your harvesters. This is key to making more money in the begining. Now you should be running cash flow. And you should also have been making the Wind Survey Tools and made master by now. All the while getting a good start in the game. Congrats...

      I've been making good money on resource sales.  I think only newbies are buying resources now. The vetrans have hundreds of thousands of resource units hoarded up. Anything on the bazaar priced over 1000-1500 credits hardly ever sales. I think they are being bought by newbies and multiclassers. The 250 and 500 unit resources move really well. The bazaar limit is a major bottleneck. My character is Level 4 Surveyor and Level 3 Engineer and Level 2 Food/Clothing. No Business skills yet. I'm building on my experimentation. Crafted goods sell well on the bazaar if they are cheap. I have four harvesters (2 chemical, 2 mineral). I am powering them with radioactives from the radioactives harvesters. WIth 94% (Chemicals) and 81% (radioactives) efficiencies I am producting resources at .18-.20 credits per unit, including the cost of power (.14-.15 without).

      I started out as a medic. Recently I began as artisan to survey/sample resources. Why?

      The reason I (and a lot of medics/docs with me) go artisan ourselves is that the resources found at bazaar/vendors are lousy most of the times.

      Crafting a great med pak takes resources of high quality. In general that is:

    • organics:  high OQ and PE

    • inorganics: high OQ and UT (and absolutely no PE)

    • There is always a "but":

      The more advanced schematics require special kind of resources, such as Class 4 Liquid Petro Fuel. Then no other petro fuels will do. Exactly the right resource is necessary. With high standards.

      So, what can an artisan do?

      The medic/doc profession is only one of several business target groups you can chose. But when you pick a biz target group, learn their schematics: What resources do they need, and what does the schematic says about which quality(ies) you need to be aware of. Write a little shopping list and see what you can do.

      Some biz groups need larger bulks than others do. Make containers suited for respective needs. And also some smaller pots for poor characters, if you like.

      NOTE: The targeted biz group know that this requires extra work for you, at least with some of the resources. So, you can make extra profit by being targeting aware.

      Summing this up:

      I have visited lots of vendors stating "quality resources" or "medic resources", but only a few have met up to their advertisement. So ..., maybe I buy something. But I never return, I have ever never so far made a Way Point to a resource vendor. And that is a shame, I think.

      That is why I wrote this up: You can sell better resources and then make better profit and closer friends. Skip those lousy, worthless samples and concentrate on those really needed. Take those quality resources and mail your friends, stock at your chosen quality-only vendor or go visit a place were your biz target group hang out.

      MHO

      As a suggestion to another way of getting through artisan..

      I started in Tyrena. I ran crafting missions to the south. This does 2 things...

      1. It gives you about 1500 credits per mission (and since you can run 2 at the same time this yields about 3000 cr per trip.) It is also the safest route to go for these types of mission because there's nothing to kill on Vreni Island, and nothing there to kill you unless you pick the fight yourself. :)

      2. It gives you xp. Yes the xp is low, but I found it a great way to get up the artisan tree. I also surveyed while waiting for the shuttles and crafted other things such as crafting tools, and surveying tools with those resouces I gathered on my own for more xp.

      Just another way to get off the ground.

      One point that should answer most of the questions about why the main posts macro doesnt work,when you start the macro and it brings up the resource input screen you have to manually double click on each resource to add them to the crafter.The first pause in the macro is the amount of time you have to add those resources.(Tip Only have the resources you are using for the macro in your inventory.)

      Now that you have your macro started and you got your resources added to it,now you are expecting it to go to the next screen of the crafting process,but instead it closes and says "Crafting session ended.",this is what is suppost to happen,check your resources or even check your xp you will find that your resources are gone and you gained the xp for the craft.I thought like most that posted that it isnt working but it is.
      Hope this clears up anyones questions about the macro not working.

      /stand

      Where XX is the toolbarslot that corresponds to the macro.  The longer pause when sampling gives me more sample time and less bouncing up and down. The AFK message keeps you from being logged by the system, and also lets pesky people know you wont answer 'em. The pause of 100 while sitting guarantees that you'll be fully recovered (at least for me... depends on your action/mind stats. For the numbers I gave, your rate of recovery while sitting must be at least 150% of your burn rate while sampling). You may need to tweak this number a bit.
      Finally, I restart the macro by calling the slot where the macro is stored.
      Same thing as the guide, really, but with a few improvements.
      With this method, I ended up sampling over 1K of tatooine steel over a 6-hour period at Survey I! Pretty good for a junior digger, huh?
      Tonight I plan to do it again with Tatooine fiberplast.

      Some of the wealthiest players in this game are Master Artisans. Master Artisans are the people who make the most valuable non-medical consumables in the game: weapon powerups and droid batteries.

      Get an Equipment Factory from an Architect, and a Small House. Use top-quality materials to make yourself a high-efficiency Wind Generator (base extraction rate 7 or above), three Pesonal Mineral Harvesters (BER 4), and a Personal Chemical Harvester (BER 4). Use the harvesters to bring in the best quality metal, ore, and chemicals you can find in your local area.

      Now go to a Weapon (etc) Crafting Station, and make a Barrel, or a Coupler, or a Muzzle (opinions vary). Use all your experimentation points. If the result doesn't look valuable, escape out and make another one. When you get one that looks good, instead of creating a prototype (making one), create a 1000-unit schematic.

      Take that schematic, plus some power, plus enough raw materials to make at least 100 of that item. Throw all those into the factory, and start it up. It'll email you when it's done.

      Set up the small house where it'll see some traffic. Put a vendor terminal in it. Change the house name to "so-and-so's weapon powerups" or something of the sort. Pay maintenance on the vendor. Dump the crates into it. They'll sell like hotcakes.

      Not selling fast enough? Take one crate, peal a few powerups out of it, and list them on the local bazaar. In the description field of each, include directions to your shop. Now they'll sell.

      Rinse, lather, repeat.

      If you get ahead on weapon powerups, and have enough in stock to tide you over for a day or so, switch off and make a bunch of crates of fully-experimented top-quality-materials droid batteries. Add those to the vendor terminal. Watch them fly off the shelves.

      If you get a few minutes, keep making those BER 4 personal harvesters and BER 7-9 windmills. They'll sell steadily off of your vendor, too.

      Finally, if all else fails, sell raw materials. You can't compete with a Master Architect, but you can come close enough. Any cheap metal and/or ore and/or water sells on the bazaar for 3 credits per unit. Harvest it, break it up into 1000 (or 750) unit chunks, sell it for 3000 credits per chunk on the bazaar. Easy money.

      In the mean time, count down to December 12th, the tentative release date for the next publish - at which point anybody with Engineering IV will be in the business of selling vehicles. When That Day comes, have as many thousands of units of ferrous metal and non-ferrous metal in stock as you can. 1000 to 1200 units of ferrous and 250 to 450 units of non ferous. Quality of materials doesn't matter. On Vehicle Day One, you'll be able to sell as many of them as you have the raw materials to make. The first ones will sell for insane amounts of money. After that, it'll be good steady money.

      If you feel like branching out even further, buy a Food Factory, make yourself a personal floral harvester (BER 4) and buy the rest of the materials, and make crates of Bofa Treats. Market 'em as pet food, CH's will buy them in steady quantities.

      Check to see if there are Droid Engineers and/or Architects locally who haven't kept all their artisan skills. If they didn't, then they'll need to buy crates of components that you can make at Master Artisan. There's yet another income stream for you. A second Equipment Factory is starting to sound good, no?

      If you're feeling generous, or you want to start building customers early, once you get to Engineering IV and Domestic I or II, you can use good quality materials to make CDEF weapons that do about double damage over the free ones. You won't make big money off of selling them on the bazaar, but you will make money, and you'll make friends.

      Also, as early as the very beginning of when you start, check to see if the local bazaar usually has General Crafting Tools and Mineral Survey Tools on it. If not, then every day make some more and restock them. It takes you a matter of minutes, generates income, and generates usage XP the first several times they use them - instead of getting 15% more XP (practice mode), we're talking 150% more XP. And again, it makes you money from day one.

      Even if you don't have the patience to run crafting missions (which you will want to do, early on, to pay for your harvesters on bad days), you can make money as a Novice Artisan and you can make big, steady money as a Master Artisan.

      For my grind to master artisan, I just spent about 4 days just surveying chemical and minerals with a macro, then building clothing and armor crafting tools. I got master artisan in about a week this way.

      Boy Oh boy Oh boy.....I guess people still don't know about the fastest money maker in the game when it comes to first starting out.  Even when you are master Artisan this is a quick way to get money. Your guide is good, but having to wait for your resources to sell can really limit you and may take longer to earn money as everybody and their parents are trying to sell resources on the bazaar. Which by the way, limits you to 3000 credit sales for both instant sales and auctions and cost you 20 credits to post.

      Now this is a fast way to make at minimum 10,000 credit within your first hour of starting a new character.

      Start in Moenia on Naboo, pick up artisan crafting missions from the artisan mission terminal. here you can find crafting missions that can pay up to 1400+ credits per mission. Now they nerfed this since the last patch so you now have to refresh the list more...before the very first list would pop up with nothing less than 1000 credit missions....Also the 1400+ credit missions are very rare now.....but you should still get about 1350 per mission.

      Now grab two of these missions and go get the schematics from the npc's that your waypoints point to, then go to the shuttle port. for moenia it's only about 100m away....buy a round trip ticket which will cost you 230 credits (you start the game with 250, so not a problem). Now if you have to wait for the shuttle, go ahead and craft the 2 items you need to make. you don't need any engineering or surveying experience, only novice artisan or a generic crafting device.

      Catch the shuttle to deeja peak, deliver the crafted items to npc's at your waypoints....now this part is where timing is crucial if you don't want to wait on the shuttle for 10 minutes. You have to back track to the front of the guild hall you will pass before delivering the items to the npc's. Keep a look out for this as your artisan mission terminals will be in front of the guild hall on your right. Go to the terminals get 2 more missions....these in deeja peak usually pay higher with less refreshes. Now go get your schematics and high tail it back to the shuttle port. I'm not exactly sure how long the shuttle stays there but you should make it given you haven't spent a long time refreshing the mission terminal.

      If you have to wait again, which by the way should never be more the 3-4 minutes either way if done right.....then just assmeble your items, catch the shuttleport and deliver your items....

      Rinse and repeat as long as you want.

      Here's some numbers.....

      I try to grab nothing less than 1350 paying missions....so lets use this number. 2 missions, so that's 2700. Now if you get the same 1350 or some where near that on the trip back you are essentially making 5400 in one round trip. Even if it takes the whole 10 minutes at each shuttle which it never will....you make 5400 credits every 20 minutes....but since everything is close in moenia...you can basically get off the shuttle, get you missions, get the schematics, and get back to the shuttle before it takes off again. now assuming you are pretty fast, I will cut moenia's time in half....5 minutes....now you are making 5400 in 15 minutes.....

      Warning! If your time gets thrown off from lag or any unforseen circumstance at worst you will be still making 5400 credits per 20 minutes. Now that's not bad....

      with this method, I created a new character and had 14000+ credits in little over an hour. Now if that's not enough money to start with for your artisan needs well then you need to pick another profession.

      Oh yeah, any profession can do this as long as you have a crafting tool. You may get a critical error, but it is rare.....you should achieve engineering 1 while doing this too. You will still need to grind your surveying xp though. I found surveying xp easy to get....and if you utilize the overnight macro mentioned here...you should have no problem gettin the xp needed....I only wish I had a macro when I maxed surveying 4....I did it all behind the computer...:(

      Try moving to a different planet.  I've seen that happen. It's almost as if some planets people buy one thing and on others they won't buy at all. Also try shouting at different star ports or post to the bazaar about where your shop is located, and if that still doesn't do it, and your prices are reasonable, pick up another profession and move to where the demand is. That stinks if you love the profession, but what can ya do if the market has dried up? =(

      Good guide i think... but to be honest including a samplng macro is kinda fruitless... since they added the dumb little box in... it now makes it harder to get good exp without sitting behind the comp for hours falling asleep... but hey it works i guess... in my honest opinion the crafting classes have suffered tremendously... at this stage in the game there isnt many new players comming in... and the verteran players have either mastered they're classes or quit... and dont have much of a need for anything crafted... I have a master Architect on Gorath server... with a vendor up near all the original corellian cities... and each vendor has like 5 of everything i can make on it... and prices are based on 3 creds per unit used... and none of it is moving... but hey thats just my luck... or maybe its the server or the planet...
